[brick] - Crazy Cat Lady
Crazy Cat Lady
.
.
The house next door has a hand lettered sign
that reads, "Free Kittens," written in black ink
on white construction paper torn to size.
The sign is not large, nor does it stand out,
if not for the breeze, you'd miss it, I think.
.
"Did you see the sign?" she asked yesterday.
"Yes, I saw it," I said, "you've got three cats,
two guinea pigs, and a gerbil already."
"I know," she said, then toed at the downspout,
sighed, and droned, "I know, I know, I know. Rats."
.
This morning, to make matters even worse,
from our sunny Sunday breakfast table
we watched three kittens in their window first
yawn then play in the lace curtains. No doubt
about it, these three were adorable.
.
"Tell me 'No,'" she said from the bleeding hearts,
"No," I told her from the flowering chives.
"Say it again," she said, "this time more harsh."
"No!" I said, and got the expected pout.
Maybe I can get her to stop at five.
