Endarken - No Free Rides (Kabul my ass)

No Free Rides (Kabul my ass)
----------------------------
.
What is behind those black eyes?
What is there for me to find?
A thousand lives, years,
a thousand sighs?
.
All weighty matters tucked aside
away from air, or gravity..
what do you keep inside?
.
Black vest on white shirt,
black iris on white eye..
The first belies, the second denies
all that you keep inside.
.
Life was black, way back before
"I saw a ghost" and knew the most was
ours to aspire to be.
.
Ours to keep pure, keep faith, in
perfect company, in perfect need.
Ours to pursue as forecast by destiny,
to nurture, hold fast and grieve;
.
Stake grace on casual comedy,
bereft of brevity - that ride is free.
.
That is the ride I offered you in
hindsight, in new company...
.
The contrast stark, like
your mark toppled through a light sight that
cannot forgive the night it's forced concern,
it's forced plight..
.
What now do you keep in sight?
.
I'd love those eyes, I'd share that load -
to lighten that heart I'd walk the road to
Kabul and back; if it would bring
black eyes safe, our free ride back for
now, I share with solace;
.
One wish:
Your black eyes free
of the indignities of foreign places
under foreign skies, foreign wars and foreign hatred; it's
all just lost time, time wasted.
.
I'll walk till there's a sign your
black eyes have won victory for mine,
and are coming home to me.
.
